Elements of Arts and Crafts Style: Wood

The Arts and Crafts focus on both nature and fine craftsmanship has been a big influence on our work, and as you look through our portfolio of residential and commercial mountain architecture, you’ll see those values in action. We strive to create luxury homes that embody the rugged, timeless spirit of Lake Tahoe, married with an elegant vision of mountain living.

If you love Arts and Crafts style and want to achieve it in your  home, there is one element that you must include: wood. Classic Arts and Crafts interiors feature wood ornamentation heavily, and never painted. Stain allows the wood grain to shine through, which in turn gives these spaces a more organic, natural feeling.

Since craftsmanship is such a large part of the design style, the woodwork in Arts and Crafts homes often shows off the details of its construction, presenting joinery and detailing on paneling, banisters, trim, and even ceilings.

You can see this at work in the homes we create here at the firm of Dennis E. Zirbel, Architect. Please contact us today to learn more about our Lake Tahoe residential and commercial architecture services.
